The audiobook of Calypso was nominated for a 2019 Grammy in the Best Spoken Word Album category. Beloved for his personal essays and short stories, David Sedaris is the author of Barrel Fever, Holidays on Ice, Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, and Theft By Finding: Diaries (1977-2002). He is the author of Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary, a collection of fables with illustrations by Ian Falconer. Each of these books was an immediate bestseller. He was also the editor of Children Playing Before a Statue of Hercules: An Anthology of Outstanding Stories. His pieces regularly appear in The New Yorker and have twice been included in “The Best American Essays.” There are over ten million copies of his books in print and they have been translated into 25 languages. In 2018 he was awarded the Terry Southern Prize for Humor, as well as the Medal for Spoken Language from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

We are thrilled to host Author David Sedaris at the historic Kalamazoo State Theatre.

How big of a purse can I bring?
You can bring any purse or bag with the dimensions of 8 inches wide
by 5 inches tall with a width of 2 inches or less. If your purse does not
meet the above requirements, you are allowed to bring a clear plastic bag,
no larger than 1 gallon, into the venue with your belongings.

What time does the show start and when will doors open? What if I need ADA assistance?

**Please note, the bar & concessions close during the show and reopen at 8:30pm during the book signing.

We suggest that you arrive early in order to avoid the line and to pass through security check points. We look forward to a great night! Anyone with ADA needs and requiring additional time to be seated may enter 15 minutes prior to posted door time. For more information about accessible seating click here. Please be advised that event times are subject to change due to a variety of conditions including inclement weather, illness, and transportation delays that are out of our control. For this reason, any delayed events performing on the original event date are nonrefundable.

There will not be an intermission. Please plan accordingly.

YES! We just opened some great floor seats and we have single seats available for $25. You can buy tickets online here or during the below box office hours.

PLEASE TURN OFF OR SILENCE YOUR PHONE. Unless otherwise posted, absolutely NO professional photography, audio or video recording of any kind is allowed during the performance. Cell phone photography and point-and-shoot cameras are NOT allowed. Professional cameras and detachable lens cameras are NOT allowed in the venue unless approved by management.

Will I be searched prior to entering the theatre?

Where can I park for this event?
Kalamazoo State Theatre’s main parking lot is located just south of the
theatre at the intersection of South Burdick & Cedar St. and is available
starting at 5:00p.m. for $10 per car. For additional parking options, please

How do I pick up Will Call tickets?
Will call tickets will be available for pick up at the Kalamazoo State
Theatre box office beginning at 4:00p.m. on the day of the event. We will need to see a valid photo ID and the credit card used to purchase the tickets to pick up from will call.

When will the box office be open?
Standard box office hours are Fridays 11:00a.m. – 6:00p.m. and show days
starting at 3:00p.m. Hours may vary on event days. Please see upcoming
hours below:
Sat 11/16: 3pm-8:30pm
Sun 11/17: 3pm-8pm
Wed 11/20: 3pm-9:30pm

Will concessions and bar be open at this event?
Our concessions open at when doors open. We offer a full bar with
multiple points of sale throughout the venue & we accept cash or credit. All
concessions may be taken to your seat. Please make sure to try out our
new recycling initiative, The Yucket, when disposing of plastic

cups. Popcorn is available for purchase at the bar.
